As a foreigner who's lived in Japan for years (and absolutely loves it), there are inevitably times where I feel exactly like John here, obviously to a less intense degree due to modern times and all. But yeah, you hit the nail on the head. I think it's true for almost every foreigner who lives in Japan there are gonna be small things you won't accept and rebel against. This scene was John's small and poignant act of rebellion to the culture that would pressure his love to end her life.
My players put one of the live cats in Wachterhaus into their bag of holding and when they reached in later to pull it out, perfect opportunity for them to grab it and see it’s been clawed to shreds then reaching out is the bagman to pull them in. Combat ensued and they were actually smart to pull the bag off him from the other side preventing him from escaping
Upon exiting the death house, my players noticed a cloaked figure entering a black carriage and a basket by their feet with goodies (a map of Barovia, some healing potions, wine and bread and cheese, and a welcome letter).
One of my players was a barovian local and it’s no issue at all. Great way to share lore ahead of time with them so they can educate the other players about the land and the village of Barovia and facts/rumors ppl believe. My player was also semi-tight with Ismark so that was an easy introduction.
Let the players believe he can’t unless he is invited. Let them feel a sense of security knowing he is outside and cannot reach them, until he effortlessly steps through the threshold on his own accord.
Ocarina of Time full outfit the whole game. Just feels right. That or Twilight Princess outfit cuz it’s a bit darker and fits the aesthetic of the world better. Less cartoony
For me he was accepted back into ravenloft and was present at dinner along with Escher, Rahadin, Brides, Ernst Larnak/lady Wachter. He has powered up and become a formidable member of the court
As an adopted Asian American who grew up in NY in a white family and always felt safe...I no longer feel safe and am moving to another country (that ironically would rank lower than the US)
I moved to Japan in 2016 and have no intention of returning for at least 15-20 years, or until America fixes this fucked in problem. I don’t feel safe in the US, period.
Jeny Greenteeth for magic items and potions that I roll for randomly. Vallaki for supplies, or they can request specific items from Ezmerelda/Arrigal for when the vistani go outside the mists, but that’ll have a few in game days turnaround.
In my game they’re brothers. Rahadin begged Strahd to spare the dusk elves and offered himself instead. Strahd accepted and thus only killed the women. Rahadin saw it as fair and remains loyal (he’s also a bladesinger and vampire)
