I go back and forth because it's a slippery slope to just lock up people and I dont really trust us to be able to do it without bias especially historically when it comes to forcibly holding someone. The places now are just full of rampant abuse, cut budgets, and no real treatment happening and even if it does it doesnt continue once you leave. There are no support systems for mentally ill as well as nothing to help continue treatment, the waiting lists are long and if you dont have health insurance or access to medication then its useless in the first place since you cant continue treatment. Its not as easy as shoving someone in a building.
I met a mother of 3 who moved from a red state to our rural purple town in a blue state. She reported being shocked and saddened about how far behind her kids were in school.
