  1. Honestly, I'd call them even. They both have the same experience in the cockpit. So, yes the programmer is as good of a source as the tech.

  2. Crew chiefs tend to have exponentially more experience in the cockpit, just not in flight. My uncle was ground crew for a-10a's in Iraq and they would do a lot of setup for the pilots, everything from aligning maverick gyros and setting up round/cms counters to setting up the aircraft for ins alignments.

  8. That is the crux of the issue, we dint want to artificial limit weapons and system, but how AI detects, tracks and identifies targets needs to be more inline with those weapons and systems.

  9. Definitely understand that, artificial limitations and simulators don't mix, but are they currently at least close to accurate? Like I said I doubt a bmp gunner could acquire a target through the gunsight (even with help from a commander) and then be able to keep up with a beaming fast jet. Not to mention getting the exact right amount of lead (assuming the turret travel is fast enough to not just rotate with the plane but also past it for good lead) using pure guess work since he won't be able to see the target that is 80 mils to the left or right of where the gun needs to be pointed for proper lead.

  10. To the best of my knowledge, the BMP 3 for example is capable of moving like it does now, the issue is the AI controlling it not being human enough, and not being limited by viewports, human error and hesitation.

  11. That makes sense, although it does make me wonder how difficult it would be to simply limit the AI's fov when buttoned. Or maybe to just prevent the ai from shooting at anything that has more than a certain amount of sideways speed for fear of wasting ammo/revealing position. I mean they shouldn't take shots they know they can't hit.

  13. Tip: if you’re in VR and have the super carrier module, set it as your background and the VR hangar then becomes the carrier with an F18 parked next to you (instead of the default mig29)

  15. Look for that in DCS User Files. There’s a few alternative aircraft you can change with a mod (using OVGME to reset each patch, etc). I’ve seen mirage and a helicopters too on there!

  20. Playing on PC and I haven't noticed any of the graphic issues. My settings are turned down a bit because I've got an older laptop but it still looks basically the same

  21. I haven't played in several years but I'm sure it used to look way better.

  22. The games performance has been pretty bad since I upgraded from my 1070ti. I heard that the game does not work well with any RTX card. Right now or I have a 3070 and I have to turn many graphics options down and it still struggles to maintain a decent frame rate.

  24. I have a follow up question. I've noticed a pattern where HOJ locks flip into STT or single bar (normal) locks on a certain enemy airframe at a specific change in range. Let's say my HOJ lock is at 30nm and I believe this will change to a normal lock opportunity at 22nm. If I fox³ at 25NM and moments later I'm able to switch to normal lock, will the fox 3 start tracking as a normal shot even though it began as an HOJ shot?

An inherent issue with HOJ is the missile will not loft since it doesn't know how much it should climb in order to achieve a good arc to intercept the target due to the lack of range data, even if you hit burn through and get a valid stt or tws track after the shot the missile doesn't know that that happened since it's still just looking for the radar reflections.

  27. That's not quite the situation. A couple of devs have proclaimed that they don't want to work with ed anymore and there has been talk about not taking on any new projects. However Ron sent out a message earlier today confirming that they don't intend to abandon their current projects.
